Chicken Gyros

i got the recipe from this website.

I made a few slight modifications. 

tzatziki sauce:

  • 16 oz. greek yogurt
  • 1 cucumber, peeled and seeded
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tsp white wine vinegar
  • salt and pepper
  • squeeze of fresh lemon juice

marinade for the  2 lbs of chicken:

  • 8 cloves minced garlic
  • juice of 2 lemons
  • 4 tsp red wine vinegar
  • 4 T extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 heaping T plain yogurt
  • 2 T dried oregano
  • salt and pepper

To make the tzatziki sauce, shred the cucumbers.  wrap them in paper towel and squeeze as much water out as possible.  Mix together the rest of the ingredients.  (Refrigerate for at least 30 min before serving)

To prepare the chicken, marinate the meat for an hour before cooking.  You can cook it in a skillet, under a broiler or grill it.  Cut into pieces or strips.

Serve on warm pita bread with lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickle, and tzatziki sauce.
